Before he
signs anything.
The agent your son picks at 17 will weigh on his career for ten years. You're allowed to ask questions, of us and of everyone else. Here are the six we'd ask in your place, with our answers.
To ask
any agent.
Ask them of everyone else too. If someone answers better than we do, pick them: your son wins, and that is all that matters.
-
01
Who picks up when I call?
Not a switchboard. A person with a name, and the same one next year. Ask how many players that person looks after. Here it's a handful, on purpose, and your son's agent stays from the first contract to the last.
-
02
What do you do in October?
Everyone is busy in June and January. The question is the rest of the year. Ours: every match of his is watched and cut into two or three clips with the analyst's notes on them, he fills a two-minute check-in on Sundays that somebody actually reads, and if he wears a WHOOP his agent sees how he slept before he sees the coach.
-
03
How do you get paid?
Ask to see the mandate before anything else: the percentage, how long it runs (two years at most, FIFA rules), and who pays. Families never pay us. The club that signs him does, or a percentage of what he earns, and the figure is written in the mandate he can open in his app whenever he wants.
-
04
What do you promise?
Nothing you'd want framed. Anyone who promises a club or a call-up is selling. We promise the work: the right matches watched, the right clubs called with a real file, and an honest answer about where he stands, including when it isn't the one you were hoping for.
-
05
What will I actually see?
A one-page report every month: his minutes, how his body is holding up, what he's working on, the clips, his own words, and a few lines from his agent. If he's under 18, nothing involving his data is switched on before you've agreed to it in writing, and you can ask for a copy, or for it to be deleted, whenever you like.
-
06
And if it doesn't work out?
Then the mandate ends, and that's that. We hand over what we hold, we delete his health data first, and we wish him well. Nobody stays here because a contract says so.
What happens
when nothing happens.
No transfer, nothing to sign. A week like any other. That is where you find out what an agency is worth.
- Monday
His agent looks at how he slept and what he wrote on Sunday. If something is off, he calls. Not a text.
- After each match
Two or three clips with the analyst's notes drawn on the frame. One thing to keep, one thing to fix.
- Sunday
Two minutes: sleep, energy, confidence, mood, a line if he feels like it. Someone reads it that evening.
- Every month
The report, to him and to you. Minutes, body, the plan, the clips, a few lines from his agent.
Four things
we won't do.
- Ask your family for money. For anything, ever.
- Sign a mandate with a minor before you've read every line with him.
- Switch on a wearable, or anything touching his health, without your written say-so while he's under 18.
- Push him towards the club that suits us rather than the one that will play him. And when a decision is his, he speaks, not us.
Who pays
whom.
An agent is paid by the club that signs the player, or a percentage of what the player earns. It's written in the mandate, and that is all he gets. Never a euro from the family. A mandate runs two years at most (FIFA rules); after that, everyone decides whether to sign again. Your son can read his mandate, his contract and his bonuses in his app at any hour. If a line isn't clear, we explain it until it is, to him and to you.
